I'm Proud of You

It's going to be a short post this week and for those of you who weren't looking forward to the holidays. I don't know why you weren't.

Maybe you had to travel and be with relatives you don't like or don't know well.

Maybe you don't feel safe at home.

Maybe you're missing someone a little more than usual right now.

Maybe the chaos of Christmas is overwhelming to you.

Maybe you're just having a hard time.

Whatever the reason is, you did it. You made it. Christmas isn't great for everyone and sometimes we aren't looking forward to it. Sometimes we want it to end so we can go back to our routine. Sometimes life is hard and feeling sad around Christmas makes Christmas hard to deal with.

I want you to know that's okay. It doesn't have to be the most wonderful time of the year every year. Some years won't be wonderful. However you felt this year is valid.

So, I want to tell all of you struggling right now that I'm proud of you for making it through the holiday season so far. Try to remember that it's just a few weeks of the year. Even if Christmas wasn't wonderful this year, it might be next year. Or two years from now. Or maybe a bit more. So hang in there.

Your feelings are valid. Your grief, your fear, your sadness, and your anxieties are valid.

It's okay if you didn't feel happy or full of the Christmas spirit. The important thing is that you're still here. There's always next year.
